Experience First-of-it’s-Kind Project Celebrating the Music of “Charlie Brown Christmas” in the Hometown of PeanutsCreator Charles Schultz
As the weather chills, we chill into new movement set to the groovy jazz tunes of Vince Guaraldi’s playful and nostalgic “Charlie Brown Christmas” soundtrack, played live by local surf-jazz quartet GST! This show expands on Rhythmically Speaking Artistic Director Erinn Liebhard’s original production CHILL from last December. If you saw last years production, which featured only half the tunes, join us this year to see Liebhard’s cast of nine dynamic local dancers and a live jazz quartet bring the entire soundtrack to life. Come enjoy a frosty pint and some great food while experiencing festive live music and dance this holiday season, and bring kids – folks 12 and under are free!
As the birthplace of Peanuts creator Charles Schultz, St. Paul is an ideal place to present this jazz choreography experimentation with the beloved soundtrack from one of his most well-known endeavors. Composed by Vince Guaraldi, a West-Coast jazz musician little-known past his region before the release of the celebrated TV special he scored, the soundtrack music itself has carved an aural niche in American popular culture, yet, until now, has never been the feature of a production of original concert jazz dance choreography. This unique show is brought to life by its excellent artists, including local band GST, known for their groovy style combining the complexity and improvisation of jazz with the energy of rock. They describe their sound as “either high brow rock or low brow jazz, you can decide.” Curious? Find out more about the artists at http://www.rhythmicallyspeakingdance.org/chill-2-0/. Seeya in December!
