IWPS Qualifier w/ Sabrina Benaim

Join us on September 20, and come to see some popular voices from the Twin Cities slam community at Button Poetry’s first-ever show at Amsterdam Bar and Hall! Come try your luck to become an Individual World Poetry Slam Representative and see a feature set from Button Poetry author, Sabrina Benaim!

Button Poetry will provide the winner with paid travel and registration to attend the 2018 IWPS competition, which will be held in San Diego, CA on October 11-13.

POETRY SLAM RULES: There will be 3 rounds for this poetry slam. Poets should have two 3 minute poems and one 1 minute poem prepared to compete. All poems are allowed a 10 second grace period. Once a poet has performed more than 10 seconds over the time limit, points will be deducted from their final score (.5 points for every 10 seconds). TIME STARTS AS SOON AS THE POET ADDRESSES THE AUDIENCE! No props allowed and all work performed must be the artist’s own. Breaking either of these two rules will lead to disqualification.

Sabrina Benaim is a writer, performance and teaching artist, whose home base is Toronto. She was a member of the Canadian championship-winning 2014 Toronto Poetry Slam team, & in 2015, she represented Toronto at the Women Of The World Poetry Slam. Sabrina has written poems for ESPNW, The Government of Canada, and most recently, made her Canadian television debut with Sport Chek, writing & voicing the third installment of their #WhatItTakes Olympic Manifesto video series. Sabrina enjoys breaking down stigma, women who help women, & the Toronto Blue Jays. She will accept any invitation to dance. Her debut book, Depression & Other Magic Tricks, was released in 2017 and is available on Button Poetry. Her poem “Explaining My Depression to My Mother” has collected over 50 million views.
